The lockdown will affect the migrant workers and poor people the most. Today, FM Nirmala Sitharaman announced ₹1.7 trillion packages to help such people.
“We don’t want anyone to remain hungry. We will take care of protein requirements of the poor and give money in their hands through direct benefit transfer," finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.
The fund will be available through the Prime Minister Garib Kalyan Scheme.
Sitharaman also added those who are fighting the COVID-19 outbreak such as doctors, nurses, sanitation workers will be provided medical insurance worth ₹50 lakh per person.
80 crore people will get 5 kg of wheat or rice each month for the next three months for free of cost above the 5 kg which they already get. Besides, one kg of pulse for each one household will also be given under the newly launched PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojna.
