The alarm rang exactly at 5:45 am. For the first time in her 17 years of life, she woke up before the alarm! Not because she had anything important to do, just that she couldn't sleep that night. Constantly anxious anyway she made it to the morning. Turning off the alarm, she walked to the window, took a deep breath, and looked around.
She could feel the early morning breeze on her face, but her hair didn't dance this time. She could hear the birds chirp, but she didn't have the energy to sing back anymore. She could hear the morning azan from the nearby masjid, the bells ringing in the temple just beside, but this time she no more folded her hands and asked for forgiveness- "God, I don't want to talk to you here anymore, forgive me. I'm sorry."
By then, it was already 6:30 when the nurse entered with her breakfast, but she didn't smile at her favorite nurse today! The nurse felt something weird, asked her if she was okay...she said- "call my mom and dad please." They came in rushing, and the sight that her parents had to see was no more than a nightmare! A nightmare to any parent.
She lay on the bed with an oxygen mask, breathing heavily. One hand of hers held her mom's fingers while her dad caresses her bald head. "we are here darling, don't worry! You are our fighter!".
She with a smile looks at them and utters, "Dad, it's being tough. Very tough. I can't fight anymore neither want to make you suffer. Let me leave now. I have a lot of complaints about God. He doesn't listen to me anymore, so I need to go to him to make him listen. Mom, I love you. Dad, I m leaving, I am sorry I can't fight anymore, But I still remain your warrior, right?"
Before he could answer, she gasped for air, and once again, a couple lost their child to cancer.
