Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the International Olympic Committee agreed to delay the Tokyo Olympics by one year due to the widespread of the coronavirus.
Japanese PM, Shinzo Abe on Tuesday told reporters that he won the backing for the proposal to delay the Olympics which are planned to start in July in a telephone call with IOC President Thomas Bach. “The Tokyo Olympics will not be canceled," Abe told reporters in Tokyo after the call.
These measures are taken considering the safety of the athletes as well as the management committee. Last time the Olympics were canceled in 1944 because of World War 2.
